Graham Noel (Botis)

In My Vinyl Offering, we get up close and personal with your favorite musicians and friends to find out the most cherished parts of their record, CD or tape collection. This time around we feature the vinyl collection of Graham Noel, bassist in the Philadelphia, PA band Botis.

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

I bought Pink Floyd’s Animals shortly after getting a record player. Before then, my collection started with a gift of all David Lee Roth era Van Halen courtesy of my sister.

The record that made me want to make music was…

Blood Sugar Sex Magik from The Red Hot Chili Peppers made me pick up the guitar and later led me to the bass.

The record I’ve played more than any other is…

I’m addicted to SZA’s Ctrl. It’s a great album to listen to intently as well as passively while I’m working or doing other things. Mahavishnu Orchestra’s Birds of Fire has also been played countless times.

The record that always make me feel good is…

Closure in Moscow’s Pink Lemonade. It’s a wild and wacky wide from start to finish.

The record I turn to when I’m feeling down is…

Converge’s All We Love We Leave Behind. It somehow tows the line between angry and uplifting.

The record with my favorite cover art is…

I can stare at Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly cover art frequently and still find something new every time.

The strangest LP I own is…

I own the Captain & Tennille record that features Muscrat Love. I consider the song the song to be one of the most bizarre audio recordings I’ve ever had the pleasure of annoying my friends with.

The rarest LP I own is…

I found a rare Pink Floyd live bootleg called Pigs, Wishes, & Moons. I posted on reddit to learn more and it turns out its worth about 6 times what I paid. I think I’ll hang on to it forever.

The last LP I bought was…

I pre-ordered Azusa’s Heavy Yoke. It’s a spectacular heavy record that I’d recommend to any fan of modern prog metal.
